But more importantly, I haven't been on dA in about two weeks. Just taking a breather. I sincerely hope no one's been holding their breath waiting for me to get back to them on anything but if you have, shit, and I suspect some of you have, very sorry, I'll be getting caught up over this week.

Otherwise…

I actually had a very good time watching On Stranger Tides! As I'd suspected, probably because of copious amounts of Barbossa screen time. I also adore Barbossa and Jack on the same team, they kick serious ass back-to-back and it's obvious Rush and Depp have a total blast acting their characters back and forth. The overall plot was very sloppily constructed compared to the preceding films but the little things were as hilarious and charming as always. Mostly, I want to vomit up PotC fan art again, just as soon as…

I get all the Pokémon out of my system. We didn't have a Gameboy as kids so we played Pokémon in card game form and in our backyards squirting each other with hoses and… throwing mud and stuff. Anyways, I can legitimately say I've played one of the games now, Ruby, which my brother ~ManageTheFancy stole off a dying man in an alley.

But before that, I was doodling by the river when a round of Belegarth started up a field away. First I was like, hot daamn, a chance to lifedraw dudes in medieval garb battling! Then I remembered Belegarth mostly consists of a dozen guys standing around looking a little uneasy, chatting and very occasionally having a brief foam-sword skirmish.*

But then I saw something I'd never seen before: little kids showed up by the car load and you should have see this, they launched right into a seven-year-old berserker Ragnarök, they were squealing Lord of the Rings lines at each other (and occasionally… X-Men? it's the thought that counts) and it was great. Why am I telling this story… I guess it's a shame we grow up to trade an utterly unfettered imagination for self-consciousness. The guys my age had their cool costumes but the kids were plunging right into the fantasy. Hard to get that back when you grow up and leave the nursery. Either way, for some reason a liddle Benjamin came of these musings.

*Although I've seen groups with an actual plan do some interesting games, so no offense meant to any Belegarthers out there who do more than dress up.**
**Probably the only reason I would join Belegarth.***
***Because I am geeky and shallow an artist.

That's a really charming story, about the kids. and your doodles are so wonderful as always :)

I did have a Gameboy when I was younger, but I still played Pokémon on the playground with my friends. Sometimes we were trainers, other times we were Pokémon =P

Dude, I love the Barbossa and Jack team. I love potc so much haha and I died when I saw you drew Barbossa. <3 You got him perfect.
And yeah, the plot was kind of messy. New director and all, you know. And I will die again of happiness if you vomit up more potc fanarts. ♥

Well, it's true!

Exactly. I'd probably be more into cosplay, well, one, if I had friends into it, and two, god, everyone I'd ever seriously want to cosplay as are male and/or... not my build. I guess we've been here. XD There's something to cosplaying characters who actually kinda look anything like you to begin with, you know? Unless you're trying to be ironic and funny I suppose...

I have seriously considered switching out my pirate costume for a leprechaun. Which I would be all over if only I could do an Irish accent without making a fool of myself.

That and I can't sew. XD Do you do any costume design stuff?

You wouldn't believe how many people cosplay characters whom they don't look like, I for one cosplay several Chinese characters and I am most certainly not anywhere near oriental XD There's a constant debate over looking like the character you cosplay versus just going out and having fun. And while it's awesome to be told you look like your character, it's the fun that motivates you to do it in the first place. And crossplay's pretty popular too, so you wouldn't be out of place if you dressed up like a man. (I did that today in fact >_>)

But I think not having friends to cosplay with is what is the real downer for you, I got into cosplay /because/ of my friends, and it's being with friends that makes the experience amazing. But I still encourage at least trying it.

I don't do so many original designs, I don't often get the opportunity.. But I do cosplay quite frequently XD and I make all of my own costumes. I'm no where near perfect, but pretty decent when it comes to drafting and sewing. It's a great creative outlet and loads of fun.

Gah! I do wish you were available to illustrate that book for me, the Ben under the tree is a great example of stuff similar to my story. But the one I'm referring to (I honestly don't know if I mentioned which one to you when I first asked, but let me say there's plenty - though really only two or three to currently speak of that I've mostly flushed out script-wise) is far and away from being finished and it's practically just got the ending left. :cough:

I don't know why it's always that I stop working on the damned things when I'm right at the ending. Something comes up, or procrastination kicks in, or some combination thereof and it sits there for gawds knows how long. I've got two like this right now T^T (I must say, I'm kicking myself heartily in the face - with the help of my sis O3<; to get one of them done sooner rather than later at least ^^;) I'm actually doing the illustrations (they're gonna be the small ones you see in chapter beginnings, or stuck betwixt chapters, something like that) bit by bit, here and there between other things to help get me back into working on the bloody thing :shakefist:

Though maybe by the time I ever (and hopefully do one day) get around to the first one, you'll be available to illustrate it. I mean, I can illustrate it myself, sure, but your stuff is awesome and I'd love to get you if I could! I have a freind who has potential illustrating power in him, but he's too godamn lazy to work on stuff himself half the time :XD: I still have yet to convince him to get a dA account to post his stuff up . . . :movingon:

Thought you went and saw a movie  I will probably end up seeing that by the time it gets on dvd :noes: cause that's how long we end up getting around to watching stuff. But I've been known to wait longer. Hell, sometimes I see something I've been dying to watch since previews had been shown and they have it airing on public television! :dohtwo:

Lol! Maybe the man was dying because they played too rough and there was stones involved mysteriously in the mud . . . :fear:

Haha, life does that, and it's good to take a break from things every now and then!!! I have a(nother) quick question - I had forgotten to ask last time, but it seems that the humans within the Altalamatox Library have animal/creature equivalents? What are these and what role do they play? Can the characters change into these creatures at will?

Thanks for your time!

Oh, you mean like reindeer Becca and owl Charles and stuff? No, it's just for fun, partly because I enjoy playing the 'what animal is so-and-so like?' game and also for those days you can't seem to draw humans. They have nothing to do with the story and aren't canon or anything. (The exception is Ben who used to have some shapeshifting ability but has long since grown out of it. He never did look anything like the anthro lion him in my header, that's just me just having fun with fursonas again.)

Hey, good question! (:

Oh! Yeah, sorry! Among the Librarians there are no animal shapeshifters. Outside the Library... it's a zoo. I have a lot of shapeshifters, too many, probably, so I'm endeavoring to not make any new ones if I can avoid it in the future. But as of now, Brogan and Marie (the monster and the heron on his arm up there) are human shapeshifters, Cornelius became that big blue creature (galatini) via a mutation and his human shape is now actually him shifted, Eric turns into a big fluffy beast thing, and of course there's Morgan Daubenmire how can be most anything he pleases but he's in my Other Storyline. But yes, those couple people are the same people in either of their shapes.

Ha, hey, not at all! (:

Ruby is pretty much my favorite Pokémon game out of the four I've played, (not to mention the first video game I ever finished!) the (excellent) recent White version coming in close behind. Generation III had the best starters in my opinion, I played through the game something like 20 different times with them, and I try to get a Blaziken on every game I play for sheer epicsaucity. I'm obsessed with chickens to begin with and then they get one on there that knows martial arts and spits fire-
:iconiloveitplz:
And OST- ehhhhhh. I went to a midnight premire and can't say I enjoyed myself too much. But I was tired and the stupidplot irritated me and I was expecting something alot different and my eyes started burning when I saw Barbs in that wig, so maybe I'm being too harsh. But I find myself agreeing more with the critics than the fans, which is something I've never done in regards to POTC, so I am definetly going to see it again if only to spare myself association with people like Roger Ebert.
(Honestly though? I was expecting too much. Plain and simple.)

Oh, hey, Daubenmire does still exist, what do you know? :D He's the kind of person who makes you nervous when you haven't seen him in a while, but now the world is back in order.

Oh man... what story was that exactly? XD Things got so disjointed at times I felt like the main thread of the plot was lost. The ending scenes were the weirdest by far, they really didn't wrap anything up (gods, they can't be wanting to make another after this, are they?), fact it's like they introduced a bunch of stuff right at the end and left you blinking.

Otherwise, oh yes, all kinds of little things were great- most all of the acting, the costumes and sets for PotC are always amazing, and the CG was sweeeet, the mermaids were done very well and fire-canons on Teach's ship made me lean back in my seat!

I agree, I noticed myself getting nervous during class when I have not heard from him... Keep your friends close, and amazingly talented shifters, hotshot bad boy, goofballs enemies closer. ;P

For all you stalkers reading this, spoilers!

I know, I do not think they should have brought the Spanish in because they showed up what, 2 or 3 small times in the ENTIRE movie? And it opens with them in the beginning signaling they would have a much larger plot.

And what happened to the Christian, bible guy? The Mermaid dragged him down and what? Ate him? Lots of loose ends I did not like the ending at all.

Of course, you really can not go wrong in outfit or music for a pirate movie. I loved the acting, and I thought I would not like Blackbeard's daughter, but she turned out pretty good. Blackbeard himself with the sword on the boat was all...............huh? How and why does that work? xD

And zombies, pft, I think not. Enslaved, transfixed, hypnotized maybe, zombies no.

Stalkers: Still talking about your mom spoilers!

Yeah, what was that? They started the action, they capped the climax, and otherwise... were like sailing around in the distance the whole time. Solving the dilemma of the fountain by having random guys show up and nonchalantly decimate a priceless wonder for religious reasons was a little weak. Not that that sort of thing didn't happen all the time IRL it's just... you'd think one of the Spaniards would've thought, whoa amigos, we just went through a fricken pool of water on the ceiling, maybe this IS a magic/holy place. Oh well, they functioned to save Barbossa from getting run-through at the last moment so I forgive them.

Yeah, we figured there was going to be something after the credits like there usually is but my dad was with us and wasn't sending vibes he wanted to stick around and wait for it. I need to youtube it and see if there actually was anything, I'd wager it's the mermaid-sideplot ending. And if not, well LOL, so much for wrapping up /anything/ at all. XD

I... am mostly happy Jack marooned her at the end. If there was a big steamy finale kiss like WillxLiz then I would have barfed; Jack seems too selfish to me to actually tie himself to another person, it would have been way out of character. I loved him shooing off her annoying flirting on that island. I am evil.

God, two things they could have cut out COMPLETELY and it would have been better: The 'zombies'? Just make them big scary stupid dudes like we've been seeing under captains all along, that's basically all they were. And that rope sword... WAAAAAAHT WAS THAT?? Blackbeard was the scariest pirate ever not because he was cunning/ruthless/insane genius but because he could twirl fingers around a hilt and control ship parts? Totally unnecessary, weird, and never explained. And now Barbossa's got it and... what? Is he planning to retire anytime soon? I mean, barring the kracken, you basically win once you can make ships kill their occupants with your psychic sword thing. Bit of a snore, innit?

I agree, I think it was quite much to see a ton of soldiers popping up in the little cave area. Then destroy it? Why would they risk their lives for DAYS, if not weeks, just to destroy it?

I heard the ending was odd, it was just Jacks girlfriend on the beach looking at his voodoo doll then smiling. So, if she can not die now, can she starve? Will she just look young? What are the rules! Poorly explained.

I agree, he is just not that kind of character. Though I LOL'd when he said "Oh, I gotta go" so priceless xD The look on her face!
But the very ending where he gets the Pearl in a bottle back and just kind of walks away with Mr. Gibbs was wayyyy to weak. I mean, just walking away? Was her serious when he needed a man with a goat? Why and how did Blackbeard even keep ships in a bottle!
Then with Barbosa on the Queen Ann’s Revenge sailing to Tortuga? (sp) I mean really, it was too watery ;.; That’s it?

Yeah, I mean, no joke, had they never had said the word "zombies" I would NEVER had known. I think they just wanted a larger audience? I personally was expecting a lot more with that, even though I was slightly afraid xD But then I saw them and was all......umm ok?
Blackbeard’s sword, and just the whole magic thing was too far. Made no sense, and not once in really any of the movies, explained how an why they had magic. Tia dalma (sp), whatever cause she was Calypso, but everyone else is normal. So... anyone can control the sword? That is kind of cheap and un-needed. I thought Blackbeard was WAY too soft. I mean ok, he burned a guy to death, but that’s pretty much it. Barbossa was more ruthless, stabbing him with a poison sword. I was expecting more. >.<

I'm with you on that. The Spaniards could have been used more, maybe a scene with their leader talking with Barbossa and Jack about the FoY and telling them how foolish they are for seeking it or something. I was half expecting such a conversation to take place.

There is an after credit scene. I can tell you if you like?

Zombies definitely could have been left out. They certainly did not feel like zombies too me. They just felt like big guys with tattoo scarrings.

As for Blackbeard, I kinda know more about the Sword then the movie let on so I'm not entirely disappointed with him. I was also expecting an explanation for the sword though. Like Jack asking Angelica where Blackbeard got it or something. I would have also liked a flashback to the Pearl being taken to see exactly how Blackbeard managed to get her in a bottle. Heh Pearl in a Bottle.

The impression I got about the sword, though, is that he acquired it after his "death" off of North Carolina.

And you already know my opinion about Barbossa with the sword.

Barbossa: Woot! New toy!
