Liddle somethin' for *GloomyUnderwoods, an artist I really admire for her frankness who's made me reconsider the way I think about quite a lot of things. I've learned a lot about art from a lot of deviants but Gloomy's on my shortlist of people I also follow for wisdom nuggets. Her sense of humor makes her all the cooler.
This pair is hers, an Andean condor shaman and his daughter who I took the liberty of aging a bit. I like these guys a lot, I hope I did 'em justice! I don't recall the last time I drew anthro birds, they are tricksy.
Andean condors, guys. Ten foot wingspans, live up to a century, mate for life, and care for their chicks for two full years. We've actually got a pair in our local zoo, they are huge damn birds and the male has a vendetta against humanity and does his best to eat my friend's fingers through his fence. There's something about angry zoo animals that makes me respect them more, it's like they know they're not supposed to live in enclosures and have an inkling who put them there.
Anyways, there's something I read about the importance of El Niño to these guys, how the storms come through and make lots of dead animals and lots of happy condors. I can't help imagining there's some sort of father-daughter everything-the-light-touches circle-of-life sort of discussion going on here, only it's less egotistical for vultures. Everything dies, my daughter, and then we eat it. *yay*
Ooh, glowy eyes and glowy clouds for the win. This is pretty cool. One day sis, all this will be yours What, the mountain? No not the mountain, road kill!
Oh my God the daughter looks so adorable and wonderful and you gave her a little bit of clothes she'd definitely get sooner or later because I imagine it's cold up there and her smile and face is so pretty, and these eyes and aaaaahhh *EXPLODES* *REBIRTH*
And the Andean Condor daddy looks delicious with these typcial face wrinkles! I actually very much grew on their "ugly" faces the more I got to read about these amazing birds, how they live, who they are. I find them beautiful.
I didn't expect you'd pick these two characters but I feel awfully flattered you did. For they are very personal characters of mine and I really should draw them again. I don't mind that you drew them a little older, it only continues the story! Oh man, I can't get my eyes off the daugher, she's such a child of wild life and healthy curiosity. Daddy is proud of his kid and you showed all these emotions in their faces. Also, I like how her neck fluff makes her clothes look like she's a small inuit, hehe. I love Inuit styled clothes for winter.
The backgrounnnd~ is so. Prettyyy! :0 Realistic painting backgrounds are some of my very favs, these blurry foggy but really cool ones. I find it amazing how you actually used these mountains of the condors' home and that they're so high, there's these thick clouds and fogs down there and not above them. And that absolutely beautiful bright-blue thunderstorm going on down there. <3
Your comment is so kind, ahhh! ;_; I think I blushed like an idiot when I read what you wrote about me (I honestly squealed like one when I saw this picture too). And lol wisdom nuggets, I love that word.
YEAH I don't have good experiences with zoos either. I mean I get what people want to reach with zoos, getting to see animals in real life without having to travel.. but it's just not the same as wild and free animals and never will be. I actually learn much more about animals when I watch good wildlife documentaries about them on TV then when I watch animals get fat and mentally damaged in a cage. You ever saw how zoo elephants start to get black eyes (even black eye lids), standing there and shaking their heads slowly for hours? This sight made me cry once. Maybe that's why I enjoy traveling, I like freedom. AND PERU IS ON MY LIST BECAUSE I WANNA SEE WILD ANDEAN CONDORS. Or what's left of their population. :c
ANYWAY I LOVE THIS PICTURE FOREVER AND ALWAYS! I can't express in words how much. Both this picture and your comment mean a lot to me. The way you write is delicious to read too. By the way, I didn't know that about the storms but it only makes sense ("how the storms come through and make lots of dead animals and lots of happy condors" haha!) YAY I LEARNED SOMETHING NEW TODAY.
awww. there's just nothing more heartwarming than a father teaching his daughter about the ways of the world. and how to gorge yourself on carcasses. yay!
This is pretty cool.
One day sis, all this will be yours
What, the mountain?
No not the mountain, road kill!
