Because I want to be killed in my sleep by my own creation. Also because it's his biiiiiirthday today. And generally because teeny newt Cornelius is friggen adorable. Now I'm doomed to having him stare balefully up at me whenever I'm by my lamp. This I think I can live with. WEE LIDDLE FEETS.

Followed your guys' advice and got me some sandpaper which worked wonders for rubbing out fingerprints and lumps. Stupidly, these pictures were shot before sanding, but take my word for it. He turned out smooth. Smooth as a glatni's bum.

Excuse me. I have to start running now.

This is fantastic. It is so difficult to get clay to be so smooth and liquid-like, you've done a great job!

Sorry Cornelius, you're awful cute here. I'll just..take your word on how smooth he is and not question how you got the glatni bum experience.

I spy your last clay buddy back there...without his steek. I forgot what you named him.

As an awesomely cute little chap, probably he couldn't. He's usually around seven foot with teeth like my fingers and I probably shouldn't make fun of him the way I do but I do. I figure if it were possible for him to get at me he'd have done so by now, so I must be safe... right?

He's just so unspeakably CUTE! I just want to tickle his belly and his itty bitty little feets and feed him smoked oysters and sardines and kippers.

"HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME? AM I NOT SAD ENOUGH? ;__;" I think he has surpassed Puss in Boots in the cute and enlarged eyes skill.

If only he were warm and fluffy and not a clammy amphibian thing he'd be set!

I've just had the most random and kind of terrifying vision of Cornelius ending a proposition to the Senate with big shiny sad eyes. Maybe I should suggest it to him. Might win some votes, you never know.

That's pretty awesome! I'd be interested in knowing what one uses to color such figures, plain acrylics?

Yep, that's what I use, acrylics. He's also got some glaze on his eyebibbles and liquid gold leaf on his clothes.

Aha, good to know that one can use acrylics... I must've been using the wrong type of paints before then. :)

How much does this stuff cost? I'd probably be awful at sculpting but I want to try anyway because I'm mad like that. (I'd ask where you get it from but, different countries, so hey.)

Also also, how long did it take? Because it looks like a hell of a lot of work!

DAW.

You know, lately I've been stealing it from my parents' house, actually, so I'm not sure anymore. We get it in these 8oz blocks (Cornelius here maybe chewed up a quarter block, there's a ball of tinfoil inside his head), which I KNOW are less than $10, maybe less than $5. Not pricey at all. It keeps forever and doesn't dry out or need attention, you bake it for less than an hour and it's done, it's really easy to work with. I've seen it lurking in pretty much in every arts and crafts store I've been in, so it shouldn't be too hard to track down. You should totally give it a try!

Not sure on time, maybe five/six hours sculpting? An hour sanding, two painting? Time freaking flies doing 3D stuff, I find. Maybe it's because I use it as a break from other art, but it never feels like work. Really fun to do something tactile now and then, I'd definitely play with it. :)

Cornelius has been right between my ears judging me for years now. I have been thoroughly judged. What the verdict is he won't tell me. But I'd wager this project has not helped my case.

Thank you! <3
