Wee Fluffers by Altalamatox Wee Fluffers by Altalamatox
Oh yeaaah. Had another free day today and spent it making a pint-sized cocoa-cuddling Eric.

I feel like I say this every time I post a model, but this was again a step up in complicatedness. Thankfully Mister Thedrial is a resilient fellow, because he went through the oven four times as I added myriad details and limbs and important things like that. Painting him sucked.

Tip to toe he measures four inches.

And looks really surprised when snuck up on from behind.

Tinynewt is such a pleasing moniker for Cornelius, any thoughts on what we should call little Fluffers?

Ohmygosh his tiny snout. And his lil goatee! *scratches him under his chin* *and then behind the ears* You can just sit in my windowsill, lil guy, and I'll feed you all the sweets and snacks. <3

And he looks hilarious from above. XD Great job on this. He looks fantastic!

Awww, he's cute. And I like the paint job.

I'm terrible at names. I'm going to put forward Winston. 'Cause he looks like a Winston.

How does one person get to be so talented in so many ways? :iconlegaspplz:

He's so adorable. As usual. :giggle: (I can't stop laughing at that picture of him in the top right corner. He just looks so shocked. He must have been concentrating so hard on his cocoa he didn't hear you coming. :dummy:)

Aw, thank you! I dabble. It helps work the cricks out of my fingers. (:

The only tool I've got is a small wooden stick with a slant at one end and a point at the other, which weirdly seems to cover everything I need to do.

You mean other than little Fluffers/Wee Fluffers? Because that's already pretty cute.

....*tickticktickticktick..DING*

Fluffnugget. I was going for something food-related, involving say, bite-size, or nibblet... and nugget happened.

Daww! :3 He is a little cutie! Particularly from behind like that. You're right, he does look really surprised.

But that hair! Hair is my nemesis...well, one of them anyway. XD You know how that is, I'm sure.

He looks nice even without paint. So smooth! No crumbs or anything. Do you do any sort of solvent smoothing?

Urgh, hair. I actually chose to work with Eric this time to practice sculpting fur, and that didn't get very far. Must. Learn. Patience. May give him another try non-chibified later and actually sculpt in all his hair. Or attempt to anyway.

Thank you! I had some suggestions to try sanding sculpts after baking, and that has worked wonderfully. I have a coarse grain for 'erasing' mistakes and lumps and junk and a fine grain for making things silky smooth before slopping gobs of gloopy acrylics over everything.

Some people are amazing at it, but it's very hard to make the fur out of clay without leaving all sorts of ugly sharp bits and lines. Good luck!

It must be a pretty fine sandpaper to make it so smooth. What are we talking about... 2000 grit? Finer?

320 grit, the package is telling me. It was the finest thing they had in stock at the time. I don't worry too much about perfect smoothness because of the gloopy globs of acrylics thing. What I wish is that the clay was absorbent like paper and could take acrylic washes so I wouldn't have to lay it on so thick and stroke-y and ruin all the smooth.

Ok, that's a good point about the absorbancy and globs. It really does remove the need for perfect smooth. I'm surprised how low-grit you're using to get it as smooth as it is. I would have expected lines from it.

In any case, I'll have to try using sandpaper on my own sculptures sometime. Thanks for answering my questions. :)

Absorbent clay? Keep dreaming. ;)

I like the way you painted him, how long did it take to make him? What did you use the tinfoil for?
It looks so adorable I could die *shot*

Aw, thank you!

I'm guessing it was around six hours putting him together and four hours painting. The tinfoil is for not chewing through all my clay- there are big wads of it in his head, belly, and tail.

You're welcome^^

That's ten hours D: I don't think I could last that long doing something. I never really thought of using tinfoil for that, then again I don't really sculpt things before. Only once and that was a disaster ;A;
